Beware of Phishing email, it’s not really Chase

My credit card company is Chase, so I dutifully opened up an email this morning purportedly from Chase.

Email

At first glance this email appears legitimate, but then upon closer examination it is really just another Phishing scam that wants me to click the big, blue button. Here’s how I determined that this email was not legitimate:

  • Clicking the From address revealed clyderec@drmfrain.co.uk, a real address would have @chase.com in it
  • There is no First Name and Last Name in the message, Chase knows my name
  • There is no account number listed
  • In the footer they don’t have the Copyright symbol, instead a question mark appears
  • The hyperlink on the blue button doesn’t have chase.com in it, rather it goes someplace else to steal my login credentials

So stay vigilant when opening up emails from financial institutions to determine if they are legitimate, or instead are phishing schemes trying to steal your login identity.
